Data on thousands of criminals lost

The Home Office has admitted offender information has been lost .
Personal details relating to thousands of criminals have been lost in the latest in a line of Government data blunders.
The Home Office said a computer memory stick containing information on around 10,000 prolific offenders had been lost by a contractor. PA Consulting warned the department on Monday that the stick - which also contains data on all 84,000 prisoners in England and Wales - might be lost.

C-CHARGE HAS NOT CUT CONGESTION

The Congestion Charge is failing to reduce gridlock after Transport for London admitted the streets were as packed as ever. Now pedestrian schemes are expected to be axed to fight the growing congestion and there could be shorter crossing times at traffic lights. Boris Johnson, the London Mayor, said this morning (07/08/08) that he would take action against roadworks and let motorbikes use bus lanes.

AUTO DRINK DRIVE BAN TO BE SCRAPPED?
Drink drivers would not automatically be banned under new proposals to lower the alcohol limit to less than a pint of beer. The Government is planning to change the law to a ‘two strikes and you’re out’ system to prevent too many people automatically losing their licenses.It would mean those just over the new limit would get six points instead of a ban.the lack of traffic patrols, particularly during licensed premises’ closing times, is allowing an increase in incidents of serious drinking and driving to avoid detection.

Good news and bad news for Motorcyclists
Motorcyclists cleared to use Plymouth bus lanes for a years trial & a report for Transport for London dated September 07, concludes collisions fell by 42% on routes in London where motorcycles have been allowed to use bus lanes. TfL has been accused of suppressing the findings due to fears votes will be lost by opening more bus lanes to bikes. A motorcycle support group tells MCN that DVLA is consistently losing motorcycle licences/entitlements.When they contact DVLA to complain some are told there is no record.

£2m to curb anti-social problems
A civic pride officer in a seaside town and "head cams" for police working on the railways are among projects backed by a £2m funding package.
The Welsh Assembly Government money is aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and litter problems in communities.

Road pricing only on new Welsh roads
Road charging would not be applied to existing roads. Road pricing in Wales would only be applied to new major road projects, Deputy 1st Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones told BBC Wales' Politics Show, if a charging scheme for motorists was brought in, it would not be applied to the current road network.
Ministers will soon have the power to introduce schemes in Wales, under clauses in the new local transport bill. No decision on how to use the new power has yet to be taken.

David Edgar, an inventor, has established that GATSO speed cameras are unreliable because of unacceptable (and adjustable!) variations in the time between the two flashes and photographs.Two West Midlands police officers, their identity is unknown, kicked down the front door of David Edgar's home whilst he was recovering from a heart attack and then handcuffed him.
